Matija Šarkić's premature departure is too heavy a loss for Montenegrin sports, the national team and all the clubs where he built his career, said president Jakov Milatović.

At the commemoration on the occasion of the untimely death of the Montenegrin football representative, he said that his Montenegro is not the only one crying for Matija today.

"They mourn him in England, Belgium and throughout the football world," said Milatović.

The president of the Football Association, Dejan Savićević, reminded that just ten days ago, Šarkić delighted the entire public of the country where he spent a good part of his childhood with a miraculous save in Brussels, in a friendly match with Belgium.

He emphasized that he delighted even the world's biggest media, who raced to describe the release of the Montenegrin goalkeeper with compliments.

"Our Šarka, as they affectionately called him, from training to training, from performance to performance, convinced everyone in the national team's coaching staff that he is a world-class goalkeeper," Savićević said.

Captain Stevan Jovetić emphasized that Šarkić was not only a part of the team, but a symbol of persistence, dedicated work and dedication to his profession.

"He was the epitome of professionalism, an example not only to younger guys who dream of big things in football, but also to us more experienced players. He pushed his team and the national team forward, as only great goalkeepers know how to do," said Jovetić.

His twin brother, Oliver Šarkic, said that their opinion was that he had just started a great career.

"Obviously, someone else had other plans for our Matija. He was a big part of our Šarkic brothers trio. We will continue as a trio, but now with a little more distance. Everyone who knows him remembers what kind of worker he was. Now his moment to rest has arrived, now he is part of the country he so proudly defended and loved," said Oliver Šarkić.

The goalkeeper of the Montenegrin national team was buried yesterday in Podgorica.

The commemoration in the Montenegrin National Theater, organized by the Football Association, was attended by family members, national team members, teammates from Belgium and England, and numerous sports workers.
