Đukanović - Guterres: There were too many attempts to influence Montenegro from outside the country

The President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, met today in Geneva with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres. At their meeting, it was concluded that there were too many attempts from outside the country to influence Montenegro and its citizens.
In this context, Guterres said that the United Nations does not interfere in internal affairs, but that Montenegro can count on any form of support in order to speed up the European path and strengthen institutions.
Đukanović's cabinet pointed out that Guterres said that he was following the events in Montenegro with great interest, and that he positively assessed the current changes and expressed interest in organizing parliamentary elections.
Today's decision of the Parliament of Montenegro, which restores the functionality of the Constitutional Court, is welcomed. In a very open conversation, concerns were shared and opinions were exchanged about the situation in the Western Balkans, current processes and prospects for improving opportunities, especially in the context of tightening relations on the global scene and increased engagement of international actors - said the president's office.
They add that mutual satisfaction with the reunion was expressed, which, they said, confirms the continuity of the dialogue at the highest level and the excellent cooperation between Montenegro and the United Nations.
Đukanović thanked the Secretary General for his commitment to the stability and prosperity of Montenegro and the Western Balkan region and confirmed that Montenegro remains extremely committed to cooperation with the United Nations.
He informed about the situation in the country and the prospects for a politically responsible pro-European government and stabilization of conditions in the country through the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
