I believe in the intelligence of our people. These thirty years have taught me that whenever it was critical, people in Montenegro made a wise decision. So, I am an absolute optimist at this end of the campaign. I am a man who strongly believes in his strengths and who strongly believes in his victory in the elections on Sunday, said the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and the current president of the country, Milo Đukanović.
At a forum in Lozna Luka, Bijelo Polje, he said that if citizens want a European future for their children, they must send the current government to the past.
- Even those who do not want to get involved in state politics, still have to think about the following dilemma: As a parent, do I want my child what we have been seeing for the last two and a half years, or do I want a European future for him. If I want him to have a European future, then we have to send these to the past. There is no great philosophy here. If we don't think like that, then the smallest problem is that we are irresponsible towards state interests, we are irresponsible towards our children. And no one wants to be irresponsible towards their children - he pointed out.
Bad intentions
Đukanović assessed that these two and a half years were the time of serious ruination of Montenegro, serious collapse of all those values that were created, and that even the greatest values were called into question.
- If by the year 2020, thanks to the long tenure in power that I myself represent, we had reason to curiously check if there is anyone else on the political scene, someone who is better than us, someone who has fewer weaknesses than us, someone who has people wanted them to give their trust - today, two and a half years later, we see no reason for that. We saw both us and them. There's no need to guess anymore. It is clear what is being offered and everyone has the opportunity to make a decision depending on what is in their interest - stated the president of the country.
He notes that today we have people who do not serve their country, but serve other countries because they are paid.
- If someone had asked us on August 30, 2020, if you could assume such a rapid deterioration of the country, we would have said - no, it is not realistic, after all, there are some foundations that are reliable enough, such a rapid deterioration cannot happen. It can, when at the head of the state you have people who don't know and what's even worse, people who don't have good intentions. People who do not serve their country, but serve other countries because they are paid. That's what we have in Montenegro today and that's the reason for this kind of accelerated deterioration - asserted Đukanović.
He believes that Greater Serbian nationalism understood the victory of this policy in Montenegro on August 30, 2020 as a new opportunity to try to annex Montenegro and absorb it into the composition of Greater Serbia, which today is more modernly formulated as the "Serbian world".
- They did not succeed in this, not because neither Krivokapić's nor Abazović's government prevented them. No, both the Krivokapić and Abazović governments helped them. They didn't succeed because we didn't let them. The state-making opposition, which previously created that state, defended it responsibly for the previous two and a half years - he pointed out and said that an attempt was made to endanger the civil character of our state.
Funded multiple candidates
The DPS president then referred to his opponents from the first round of these presidential elections.
- This first round showed something or confirmed something I knew - that most of my opponents are actually candidates who come from the Greater Serbia platform. The ideologues of Greater Serbia, not only here but in all other countries where they want to realize their interests, so to speak, are developing a broader platform and have more candidates, looking among them for the one who can best realize their interests. Recently, there were some elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina and you will remember some of the arrests that happened there, which confirmed to us that Belgrade financed two or three candidates even then, which "worked" - said Đukanović.
It is clear why Šešelj and Raković support Milatović
The leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists also commented on the support that came to Milatović.
-If Duke Sešelj and the famous historian Raković support your candidate these days, it is completely clear what it is about, that there is nothing else to see but their support. It is clear to you that they do not support either a civil politician or a European politician. They support a man whom they believe will be effective in realizing the interests of Greater Serbia in Montenegro," said the president and noted that we simply do not have the luxury and privilege to experiment with such people - he believes.
Đukanović then referred to his opponent's promises to bring Montenegro into Europe.
- We saw what it looks like during his service in Krivokapić's government. Montenegro did not stand still, it moved back during that period. In that period, a serious chasm was really created between Europe and Montenegro. All kinds of gaps, first of all, in terms of history trust. For months, the European Union has been debating whether to end negotiations with Montenegro. It is the result of a loss of trust. That trust was being lost precisely because those two governments abandoned the practice we had. If you want to be part of the European Union, then you have to harmonize with the EU", announced Đukanović and gave an example of how it was in previous governments whose main headquarters was the party of which it is the leader - stressed the DPS presidential candidate.
He pointed out that no law was ever adopted in the Montenegrin parliament, during the term of office of the DPS, and that it was not previously verified whether this was fully in line with Europe.
- The first thing is to harmonize your legal system with the European legal system, and we worked hard to do that. No law has ever been adopted in the Montenegrin parliament during our term of office that was not previously verified as to whether it is completely in line with Europe. Because if you want to be part of that family, then you have to accept the rules that apply there. You cannot enter as a bandit to break the rules that apply there. And that was all abandoned for these two and a half years. Remember the story about the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, the Law on the President, etc. So, the European Commission warned in vain, the Venice Commission warned in vain, the bandits thought they were following logic - it could be us. It can be for you, but it can be to the detriment of Montenegro," he said, stating that he found Milatović's story unconvincing that he intends to work on the Europeanization of Montenegro - states Đukanović.
Their task is to ensure that Montenegro does not enter the EU before Serbia
The current president of the country believes that the presidential candidate of the Movement Europe now has a task received from those who do not want a European Montenegro.
- Serbia cannot bear that Montenegro is ahead of it, it cannot bear that today salaries are higher in Montenegro, pensions are higher in Montenegro. It wasn't always like that throughout history, but it has been for the last 15-20 years. She cannot bear that Montenegro will be a member of the European Union before her, and she is looking for those in Montenegro who are able to thwart Montenegro. She also found him in Abazović, she also found him in Milatović - Đukanović is clear.
He says that he respects when every young man brags about his success in school, as well as that he respects Milatović's excellent grades during his studies, but points out that we no longer talk about it, but judge "how you applied what you learned in the interest of the good of the country ".
- Maybe you really got good grades, but what you did is seen - that you shut down companies starting with Montenegro Airlines, drove away investors, starting with Amman, turned the best parts of the Montenegrin coast into pure flea markets, such as Kraljičina plaža, destroyed people's lives. So, together with the government to which you belonged, you refused donations of vaccines against covid when there was no vaccine in Montenegro... You refused them because you didn't like the donor, because you recognized the donor as a political opponent and you neglected people's lives. Unfortunately, you have brought Montenegro to the top of the world when it comes to mortality from covid. You can think how many people died who should not have died. And during that time they refused donations in vaccines because it was more important for them to deal with those who think differently than to protect people's health and lives. Are these references that recommend him and how much of these references are based on fives or tens during his studies - emphasized Đukanović.
This must be a victory for all of us
At the end, the President of Montenegro reminded the audience that victory in the presidential elections cannot be achieved by any individual, including himself.
- I do what is my task, I registered, I run a campaign, I visit places like this, I talk to people, I explain what these elections are about and at the end of that day I have one vote just like each of you, nothing more than that... Let each of us ask ourselves, if they have spoiled this much in two and a half years, how much they can spoil in four years. And let's all ask ourselves together in what state we will find Montenegro in 2027. Are we allowed to be so irresponsible towards our only state house - concluded Đukanović.
