Đukanović supported the initiative to defend Katnić from freedom with medical protection

AUTHOR: M.J.
The former President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, supported the initiative of the Montenegrin Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, which together with a group of citizens sent an open letter to Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović, and to all those involved in the treatment of former Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoj Katnić, in which they emphasize that his the arrest and detention were "followed by an unprecedented, orchestrated, political and media chase and slander, which in the rudest way destroy not only the presumption of innocence, but also seriously raise doubts about the regularity and legality of the entire procedure".
With the statement that Katnić's health is seriously impaired and his decision to go on hunger strike poses a huge risk to his life, CHO and a group of civil activists demand that Katnić's death in the Pre-trial Prison not be allowed, but that he be allowed to be released from prison with full medical and other necessary protection.

The letter that the former chief special prosecutor Milivoje Katnić sent to the daily newspaper Pobjeda, the portal Standard and the journalist Šeki Radončić, points to the dramatic situation created by his arrest, which was followed by an unprecedented orchestrated political and media hunt and slander, which in the rudest way destroy not only the presumption of innocence , but also seriously raise doubts about the regularity and legality of the entire procedure - the letter points out, noting that Katnić's decision to go on hunger strike in the Investigation Prison in Spuz poses a huge risk to his life.
It is emphasized that the SDT, competent authorities and the state of Montenegro must not allow Katnić's death to be caused and that he be sentenced in this way before the trial.
Assuming that the Special State Prosecutor's Office has the obligation, intention and interest that Mr. He is prosecuting Katnić alive and in order to prove the indictment - if and when it is brought - and not to allow, i.e. to cause his death and thereby sentence him even before/without a trial, we demand that Mr. Katnić will be allowed to defend himself from freedom, with full medical and other necessary protection - warned in the open letter of CHO and citizens' groups.
They emphasize that "any indictment must be based and proven on facts and credible evidence".
Mr. Katnić cannot be judged before the trial, in the atmosphere of lynching and political persecution, and in the conditions of his seriously damaged health and with a hunger strike. Selective and politically motivated "justice" is worse than the worst injustice. Treatment of Mr. Katnić must be legal in every detail. Any politically motivated influence must be stopped and thwarted - it is noted.
At the end of the open letter, special prosecutor Novović and everyone involved in the treatment of Katniić, which threatens his life, are warned of possible legal consequences.
If the chief special prosecutor Mr. Novović and everyone involved in the treatment of Mr. Katnić, if they ignore his inalienable human rights, then they must also be aware of the criminal-legal responsibility that inhumane and illegal treatment carries with it, in the eyes of the Montenegrin and international public - says the end of the letter signed by members of the Montenegrin Helsinki Committee and dozens of Montenegrin citizens an activist.
