Šehović: We are fighting a decisive battle for a civil and multi-ethnic Montenegro

In the presidential elections on Sunday, we are waging a decisive political battle for the defense of civil, multi-ethnic and multi-religious Montenegro, because these very values, for which we painstakingly fought for decades, are being put to the greatest test since the referendum on this, since in the previous two and a half years seriously threatened, said the chairman of the Social Democrats of Montenegro (SD), Dr. Damir Šehović, at the session of the party's municipal committee in Bijelo Polje.
Šehović said that this is not the time for adventurism, but for responsibility.
"We must be worthy of the historical responsibility that fell to us, because the ultimate goal of our political competitors is to decapitate civil Montenegro in order to complete what they have not achieved since 2020. That is why victory in the presidential elections is important to us, because the character and future of our country will depend on its outcome. That is, in what kind of environment future generations will grow up. In nationalist, clerical, medieval, or civil, secular and European. That's why the stake is neither personal nor party, but national, that is, historical," Šehović said.
Victory in the presidential elections opens the door for such an outcome in the parliamentary elections as well, he added.
"And our good result in the parliamentary elections would be a guarantee that after them we will finally get a state-responsible government, which will have enough legitimacy and knowledge to make a U-turn from the harmful policies of the Krivokapić and Abazović Governments, to which, for the sake of reminding, only the SD was the opposition , because he did not vote for the choice of either one or the other. That is why I am convinced that the citizens of Bijelo Polje and Montenegro will not have a dilemma on April 2 and that on the wings of that victory we will achieve a good result in the extraordinary parliamentary elections, which will mark a new beginning for Montenegro and its citizens," concluded Šehović.
Social Democrat MP Ivan Brajović said that the change of government is something that characterizes all democratic and European societies, but that it is not a guarantee that things will get better, and Montenegro is an example of that.
"In two and a half years, Montenegro was driven from the lobby of the European Union to its periphery, from being a leader in the accession negotiations we became the number one problem of our Western partners. No one within the family of European states wants a country like Montenegro today, and I am afraid that the citizens will pay the highest price for the harmful policies of the previous two governments. I expect that Bijelo Polje will be one of those cities that will clearly decide to stand up for the protection of European Montenegro and that they will confirm this on Sunday, but also in the parliamentary elections on June 11."
The president of OO Bijelo Polje, Ismar Ćorović, addressed the audience and asserted that Belopoljka and Bjelopoljci, together with the diaspora, will be at the forefront of the fundamental values of Montenegro.
"We in Bijelo Polje will not have a dilemma, as we did not have in the first round of the presidential elections either. The second round is an additional motive for us to fight with a pen against retrograde policies that are leading Montenegro into the social, political and economic abyss. I also believe that the diaspora will have their say and show that various attempts at manipulation and intimidation coming from outside have not affected them and their clear choice to save Montenegro from those who have been systematically destroying it for two and a half years," said Ćorović.
