Šehović: We will not give up on civil Montenegro

Montenegro is in the greatest political and social uncertainty in the last few decades, which is the product not only of the immaturity of the current ruling elite, but often also of its bad intentions, said the president of the Social Democrats of Montenegro, Damir Šehović.
"Such an environment, after the more than obvious loss of the political, if you will, civilizational compass in 2020, quite expectedly led us both to a setback on Montenegro's path to the European Union and the blockade of almost all significant institutions of the state, and created an atmosphere that instead of focusing on life topics, constantly returns to national and religious counts and alignments and gross falsification of indisputable historical facts," Šehović pointed out.
In his address, he reminded of the importance of recognizing bad decisions, but also of the efforts made by pro-European political forces to return Montenegro to the correct path of unity and EU integration.
"That's why I consider it necessary, in the moments when we summarize impressions, to remind about the importance of recognizing such bad policies, which have led us to deepen divisions, but also about the genuine efforts of those of us who are doing everything to return Montenegro to the path of unity and European integration," he emphasized. Sehovic.
As party leader Šehović pointed out, the Social Democrats were not only the consistent guardians of national interests for the past two and a half years, but also the only and loudest critics of both fallen governments, which led to the blockade of the system, but also to the collapse of values that has long existed in these areas. not seen.
"Nevertheless, we have never chosen the easy way, not even an exclusive policy of criticism, but in parallel we have done as much as we could to fix things. Higher internship fees, higher student loans and scholarships, higher minimum pensions, lower excise taxes on fuel, lower prices bread, defining products whose prices will be limited by a special law, insisting on a subsidy program for economic entities, and much more represents our concrete contribution, in contrast to this year's populist race of certain political entities to further weaken the already fragile financial stability with unsustainable and non-systemic proposals. reminded Šehović of SD's initiatives that were concerned with improving the standard of living of citizens, but at the same time taking into account the financial stability and sustainability of the aforementioned measures.
The president of the SD referred to the activities of the parliamentary group of the Social Democrats, but also to the support for the extra-institutional struggle, i.e. the current protests.
"Therefore, we criticized, but we also went about our business. We did not boycott the Assembly, but we decided to act outside it as well, providing sincere support to "IMA NAS" magnificent assemblies. And I believe that in no segment did we show ourselves unworthy of the Assembly's the bench and Montenegrin politics, but on the contrary: in the chaos that has reigned in recent years, we have preserved our own political consistency despite the flood of inconsistencies from others," emphasized Šehović.
Šehović said that regardless of all the current challenges, we should not give up on the aspiration to make Montenegro a better place to live.
"We are fully aware of the fact that if an irresponsible government pushes us into problems, we have absolutely no reason to rejoice, because we all live in this country. And this is what I want to say today: regardless of the challenges we face every day, regardless of the disastrous public discourse and divisive messages we witness, we all live in Montenegro with all our differences and disagreements. And we have an obligation to make it wide enough for everyone. Because the state is not politicians, but people, who must have the possibility to work as much as they can, so that we would all be better off. That is our lowest common denominator and the only correct path. Everything else is politics. In that name, I wish everyone a happy New Year and the upcoming holidays," Šehović concluded.
