Živković: DPS is ready to provide support in the parliament - but without blackmail and ultimatums

POBJEDA- MARA BABOVIĆ

If someone wants to come to a solution through consultation and agreement - the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) does not rule out the possibility of providing support in the parliament in situations where a qualified majority is necessary, said acting the president of that party, Danijel Živković.
In an interview with Nova M, he warned that DPS does not agree to blackmail and ultimatums.
If anyone thinks that by unilaterally issuing a solution to anyone in the Montenegrin parliament, they will assume themselves as a partner of the European Union or an advocate of European values, they are on the wrong track. They will not have an interlocutor in us. If someone wants to come to those solutions through consultation and agreement, we are definitely partners and we have shown that in the previous period of time, whether we were the government or the opposition. We do not agree to any kind of ultimatums and blackmail - emphasized Živković.
He says that they have shown that in the previous period as well.
We will not allow anyone, any political entity, to present unilateral solutions and thus present itself as a supposed representative of European values or the European agenda and to blame the other person across from him for not being in favor of it because he did not vote for someone else's solutions. Consultations, agreements, talks... After that, of course, we can always be constructive in the process of making decisions that imply a qualified majority - said Živković.
If formed, the government will be unstable
Živković also referred to the negotiations on the formation of the government. As things stand now, it is clear, he says, that this government cannot be stable if it is formed at all.
It is clear that this government, as these negotiations are going on, cannot be stable. So it cannot be stable, and that stability does not depend only on the number of deputies who will support that government, but on the homogeneity of those political structures that will support it within the Montenegrin parliament. You can see for yourself that the political entities that are on one parliamentary list are completely heterogeneous both programmatically and ideologically and that they cannot agree on what the future government should look like. Considering that, I don't think it can be stable if it is formed, for now we have no conviction that it will be formed soon - Živković assessed.
Although some, when they talk about the Government headed by DPS, point out negative things, Živković says that they do not renounce objective responsibility. But it cannot be denied that this Government was stable and successful.
In any case, the citizens cannot wait because the government is needed. It all looks like agony, frivolity and irresponsibility. Citizens do not have time to wait. Montenegro needs a government, it is necessary to form that government as soon as possible, it needs to be of European orientation. If there is no European orientation and if it is formed at all, let it be formed as soon as possible so that we can vote no confidence in the Montenegrin Parliament as well as the previous Government of Zdravko Krivokapić and Dritan Abazović - said Živković.
Živković does not think that the DPS has little coalition capacity, as it is believed in the public.
The arguments that our political competition is currently making that DPS does not have coalition capacity have completely disappeared as time passes and of course the political competition does not wish you well, but wishes that you somehow disappear from the political scene. The Democratic Party of Socialists would be the most suitable for them if it disappeared or if it was reduced to some measure of 2 or 3 deputies, and then our political competition would be receptive to it, and of course then we would respond to them. Since we preserved our political relevance in these elections, it still does not suit them. That's why we have to slightly remodel the way we behave on the political scene - he said.
If the principles are not agreed upon, he believes that there is no cooperation.
DPS cannot be a partner to those who want to see the coalition capacity in destruction - concluded Živković.
A decision on the election of the new party leadership will be made soon
At the extraordinary congress of the DPS in 2021, it was concluded that within two years the party should prepare for the immediate election of the party leadership. But, as he said, several election cycles in the previous period prevented the party from dealing with this issue.
When the new leadership of the party will be elected and in what way, he points out that the party authorities should decide soon.
These days and weeks, consultations are going on in our party on that topic. We have intensive meetings every day to see what is the most adequate model for the election of the party leadership, because as you know it is for the first time that a party has a motive to choose the party leadership directly, i.e. that members participate in the election of the party leadership, I am talking about the party president and vice presidents as well as the presidents of municipal organizations. We will see on the basis of those consultations, in relation to the degree of arrangement of our databases, what is the most adequate model that we will apply at this moment, but it will definitely not be long before we hold those elections, because it is necessary, if nothing else, for one reason at least, that the party be prepared for the next election challenges that await us in the next year - added Živković.
