A posthumous charter of the Capital to Miško Popović

The ceremony on the occasion of January 4, the Day of the Foundation of Cetinje, was held in the Government House in Prijestonica. The mayor, Nikola Đurašković, presented the "Ivan Crnojević" charter, which posthumously this year went to the great Montenegrin handball Miodrag Miško Popović.

"Miodrag Miško Popović, known to all of us as uncle Miško, dedicated seven decades of his life to the handball sport and together with his champions made Cetinje and Montenegro famous on all meridians. If we were to start listing the awards and results achieved by uncle Miško, he would be it is a never-ending series. It is enough to mention the silver generation of youth from Ajdovščina, led by the extraordinary player Veselin Vujović, then the generation that ravaged the European fields at the beginning of this century, led by Đukanović, Đurković and Kapisod, to Miloš Vujović, Lipovina, Anđelić and many others who today they play significant roles in European handball and the Montenegrin national team," said Đurašković.

He pointed out that "great champions do not die, but go into legend".

"Destiny and the match of life were faster, but we will not allow our uncle Miško to be covered by the cloak of oblivion," added the mayor.

On behalf of the Popović family, the son of Miško Popović, Blažo, expressed his thanks, pointing out that his father felt the best on the field, where he gave himself selflessly at every moment.

"Overcoming obstacles, he always reached the goal, writing the history of Yugoslav, Montenegrin, and European handball. The award he received is a sign that he is respected by the city he loved immeasurably. For us, his family, this award means a lot to us and thank you to everyone," said Popović.

Record budget for Cetinje sports

The mayor announced that the capital strongly supported sports clubs and athletes in the previous period, and that a record budget was planned for the next year.

"In addition to the main city stadium, which is in the final stage of construction, we built a new auxiliary football field, started the fundamental reconstruction of the Sports Center, built a new runway for our athletes and started the process of building a new sports hall in Cetinje, and we expect the start of work on this sports facility during this year," he said.
