A strike is also possible if wages are not increased

The position of journalists and media workers in Montenegro is generally bad, their earnings are below average, and they are often the target of physical attacks. That's why the Media Union initiated the initiation of new negotiations on the Branch Collective Agreement, with which they demand an average 15 to 20 percent salary increase for employees in the media.
If the wage increase does not occur, a strike is also possible, they say.
We believe that we are not looking for anything spectacular, but something that guarantees a minimum of dignity for journalists, and we will not give up on that. There are other ways to achieve this, if there is no will of the employers, the union always reserves the right to a warning strike - said the president of the union Radomir Kračković.
Recently, says Kračković, they received written comments from the employers on the union's proposals, in which the employers mostly rejected the requests and left the possibility to negotiate about coefficients and salary increases.
Although the first reactions of the employers do not inspire hope that the negotiations will be successful, the Media Union of Montenegro (SMCG) will give dialogue a chance, but will not give up on the demands of the workers - he said.
The vice president of SMCG, Milena Bubanja-Obradović, said that the situation in local public broadcasters is "typically bad".
According to her, local public broadcasters share the fate of the municipalities in which they work, media from the north are in a worse position than those in the south or in the central parts. She emphasized that certain colleagues from the local media receive their salaries up to nine months late.
