"Anniversary of the Christmas Uprising is reminiscent of the courage of the Montenegrin people"

Representatives of the capital and UBNOR Cetinja laid wreaths on a monument to the heroes of the Christmas uprising in 1919 in the bays and on the Lovcan Villa Monument. The Mayor of the Crown Prince Nikola Djuraskovic said that every anniversary of the Christmas uprising is an opportunity to remind us of the importance of the victim, on which the contemporary Montenegro was raised, as a symbol of state -building, equality, anti -fascism and the struggle for the freedom of the homeland.
Djuraskovic recalled that a Christmas uprising was launched on the present day, more than one century ago.
“After a group of citizens in Montenegro declared themselves a large National Assembly and, under the patronage of the Serbian Government, resolved to abolish the sophisticated state, a rebellion against the loss of Montenegrin statehood, the suppression of Montenegrin name and spiritual and political enslavement, began the loss of Montenegrin statehood. The right to the independence of the Montenegrin state was defended under the principle of "for the right, honor and freedom", which in the right way reflected the reason and goals of their struggle, behind which there was only one need - which is freedom, "said the Mayor of Cetinje.
Although the Christmas uprising by force was stifled, the idea of resistance, he said, as an unbreakable part of the Montenegrin national being, was never defeated.
"It was the basis for the magnificent thirteenth uprising in 1941 and continued to live as a spark of eternity forever woven into the core of the Independent State of Montenegro," the statement said.
He recalled that the Assembly of Independent Montenegro in November 2018 also brought the resolution to cancel the decision of the Podgorica Assembly ”and sent a symbolic message to the centenary of this act that the foundations of the old and modern Montenegrin state were made up of the ideals of freedom, honor and communion -, not from servitude and betrayal. "
“The sixth January 1919 will remain forever remembered as the date of our pride, and the Christmas uprising as an event reminiscent of the courage of the Montenegrin people, which gave lives for a better future of their generations. That is why with a special cock, marking this significant date, we keep the memory of all those who gave their lives for the dignity of their homeland and its freedom and who did not feel even when it was most difficult to speak, ”said Djuraskovic.
He said that every anniversary of the Christmas uprising is an opportunity to remind us of the importance of their sacrifice, on which the contemporary Montenegro was erected, as a symbol of state -building, equality, anti -fascism and the struggle for the freedom of the homeland.
“By nurturing the culture of memory of all the significant events that have marked our glorious history, we leave to the younger generations the sense of justice, freedom and other civilizational values on which humanity rests. The Christmas uprising is one of the events that marked our history and a unique example of love for the homeland, which shows that he loves himself and defends his country unconditionally, "he said.
He also said that "if we are worthy descendants of the heroes of the Christmas uprising," to guard what they gave their lives for and convey the culture of memories and the learning of national history to younger generations, which can and must find their inspiration in examples of our heroic predecessors .
“This is obliged to do our glorious past, but also the bright future of Montenegro, which must be nothing but an independent state facing Western democratic values and open to people of all nations and faiths. Neither the Christmas uprising, the Belveder events, the thirteenth uprising and the Sunny 21st Maja were installed in DNA of the Montenegrin nation and represent our thermopils and Alam when some other honorable warriors sacrificed themselves to live the idea of freedom in eternity, ”said Djuraskovic.
UPNOR President Stevan Radunovic said everyone should take the danger of Montenegro.
"We need to realize that it is more valuable than our individual or party interests and that we stand together in its defense, so that even in the future, we can come to this and such monuments and say in front of these victims that we are their worthy descendants. May the eternal glory and thank you to the participants of the Christmas uprising, the victims of the honey and all the fighters who built and defended Montenegro and who fought for the right honor and freedom of Montenegro. Let it be eternal Montenegro, ”Radunovic said.
