Bilčik: In CG, more important than fundamental values and EU

The Montenegrin Mountain Progress Report cannot be considered good, and it should be an invitation to wake up, the Chair of the EP delegation with Montenegro Vladimir Bilčik told RTCG. He emphasizes that at some point it is necessary to maintain a democratic process, because the country is in addition to the institutional and political crisis. Bilčik also believes that in Montenegro at the moment, everything else is more important than the fundamental values and the EU, which is not a good message from the country that seeks to be the first subsequent member.

For several years he divides Montenegro from EU membership. However, in order to fulfill this goal, the country has functional institutions, which is not currently the case, the TVCG chairman of the EP delegation with Montenegro, Vladimir Bilčik, tells the TVCG. Therefore, he points out that the recently published progress report should be an awakening call, because this situation is not sustainable.

"The report could and should have been better. We heard numerous promises from the Prime Minister who still performs a duty in the technical mandate, Mr. Abazovic, about what he would do to make important decisions that would make the progress of Montenegro up to the EU reality, Especially in the area of the rule of law, the benchmarks that include the functioning of the Constitutional Court and the Council, but unfortunately it did not happen. Everyone knows what to do, but the problem is that this is not done, so this cannot be considered a good report, " says Bilčik.

He emphasizes that Montenegro is facing numerous crises, primarily institutional, and expects everyone in the Assembly who are serious in EU values, to resolve the situation with the Constitutional Court, which is necessary for Montenegro.

"Also, your country is also in the political crisis. The Government has lost the trust of parliament, so such a government cannot continue to lead the country for a long time without new political support or new redistribution that would lead to a stable majority. But it does not look at this moment That it is possible to make a new majority in the existing assembly, and we also had a very open discussion in the EU Parliament that at some point it was necessary to maintain a democratic process in order to share the tickets again and the voters decided, "Bilčik said.

He also points out that at this point it is important to show political responsibility and seriousness when Europe is in a trajectory, as most citizens expect it.

"The problem in Montenegro is that the basic values are not in the first place, Europe is not in the first place, everything else looks more important than that in Montenegro policy. And this is not a good message from a country that wants to join the EU and which is qualitative in qualitative She can still consider the leader of the process, because she opened all the chapters and closed several of them, but in a qualitative sense she did not fulfill the essence, "emphasized the Chairman of the EP delegation with Montenegro.

The answers, as our interlocutor points out, are in the hands of politicians and expects that they will follow quickly, because otherwise the crisis will deepen as well as internal social divisions, which opens up space for stronger external influences that could capture the institutions of the country, especially from very very enemy places such as Moscow or Beijing. And that is, as Bilčik concludes, the last thing needed by Europe.
