The Center for Civic Education is shocked to learn that the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica has asked the Court for Misdemeanors to initiate proceedings against the historian Boban Batrićević because of a column published by the Antena M portal in August 2023, this NGO announced.
We do not know the motive of prosecutor Šišević for such a procedure, but it is dangerously reminiscent of approaches from authoritarian regimes in which members of the academic community are sanctioned for expressing critical value judgments, attitudes and opinions.
Of particular concern is the uneven practice of the Prosecutor's Office, which blindly ignores open hate speech that is published almost daily on unregistered portals - CGO stated.
