CHO: Nationalism and chauvinism must be kicked in the neck

The Montenegrin Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (CHO) strongly condemned the latest nationalist and chauvinist attacks and the spread of national and religious hatred in Montenegro.
The incident in Budva, which is already being dealt with by the Police Directorate and the competent prosecutor's office - in which the so-called "security-interesting persons" attacked and injured young people just because they showed their nationality - it must be clarified to the end - it was announced from that organization.
In CHO, they expect and demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice and sentenced according to the law.
This must, among other things, be a clear and unequivocal indication that the competent authorities of the state of Montenegro will not, in any way, tolerate violent and criminal behavior from the positions of nationalism and chauvinism - it was stated in the announcement.
Another case that the Montenegrin public learned about almost by accident was, as they said in CHO, the absolutely shameful and unacceptable nationalist and xenophobic content on the walls of the Ružica church in Rožaje.
The Church of Serbia and its officials in Montenegro continue to violate and disregard all social rules and all values of the best Montenegrin tradition - of which we are proud - which refers to the common life of all religions and nations in our country. The Church of Serbia has shamelessly abused the solidarity, good will and respect of the citizens of Rožaj and members of our diaspora from that region who are Muslims and who financially supported the restoration of the local church - it was stated in the announcement.
Instead of, as they said, supporting this wonderful and honorable example of mutual support and sincere friendship in a way that would suit a true religious organization, the Church of Serbia "painted the walls of the said church in the most down-to-earth, heinous and insulting, downright disgusting manner".
Our Muslim and Bosniak fellow citizens are directly insulted by putting daggers and sabers in their hands. On these "frescoes" are also members of the national liberation movement who allegedly burned down the church - it was stated in the announcement.
CHO expects that the competent prosecutor's office will react promptly and without delay in this, as they said, scandalous and sinister case, using clear constitutional and legal provisions on the prohibition and punishment of inciting racial, national and religious hatred.
Common life in Montenegro should be defended and preserved by all our citizens, but also by all state institutions and bodies that serve all of us equally - without "differences" regarding who belongs to which nation and whether and to which god one prays - concluded is in the announcement.
