Croatia sent a note of protest to Montenegro: "Do not manipulate the victims of Jasenovac for political purposes"

AUTHOR: M.J.
Today, Croatia delivered a note of protest to Montenegro at the proposal of the Speaker of the Parliament Andrija Mandić that the political representatives of the Serbian people will propose a resolution on Jasenovac, as a kind of reaction to the resolution on Srebrenica sent to the UN General Assembly.

- The note apostrophizes the inappropriateness of the manipulation of the victims of Jasenovac for political purposes, the instrumentalization of Croatia for its internal politics and calls on Montenegro to refrain from anything that could jeopardize their path towards the EU - reports Večernji list.

Immediately after the initiation of the initiative in the Montenegrin parliament, Croatia expressed its disagreement to the Montenegrin authorities, noting that it would monitor the situation and react officially. This happened today, when the charge d'affaires of Montenegro was invited to the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and was handed a note.

The note expresses concern over the fact that the memory of the victims of Jasenovac is being politicized and misused for internal political contests in Montenegro, and is placed in the context of discussions on the Resolution of the UN General Assembly on the commemoration of the genocide in Srebrenica, with which it has no political-historical connection. , and in a way that does not contribute to the sincere expression of piety towards the victims, the condemnation of crimes and the development of a culture of remembrance.

- The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs condemns attempts to instrumentalize Croatia in any way for internal political purposes and emphasizes its expectation that Montenegro and its institutions refrain from moves that could have a negative impact on the future of bilateral relations as well as on the European the road to Montenegro - the note says, among other things.

Večernje writes that Montenegro is now politically between the resolutions on Srebrenica and Jasenovac: political representatives of the Serbian people and the president of the parliament announce a proposal for a resolution on Jasenovac, while Prime Minister Milojko Spajić says that his government will support the resolution on Srebrenica in the UN General Assembly. The debate in the UN is scheduled for May 23, according to the officially published program of the General Assembly session.

Jasenovac appeared as a tangent in that story, at the initiative of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. When he expressed his disagreement with the resolution on Srebrenica, he added that it would "open Pandora's box" and that issues such as the "genocide against the Serbs in Jasenovac" would now be raised before the United Nations General Assembly.

It didn't take long for the message to be heard and implemented in Montenegro, where the pro-Serbian parties and the president of the parliament announced the proposal for a resolution on Jasenov, while officially Montenegro supports the UN resolution on Srebrenica, but with two amendments: in the first amendment, it is stated that the guilt for genocide is individual, and that it cannot be attributed to any ethnic, religious or other group or community, and the second concerns the inviolability of the Dayton Peace Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
