Do Kwon will be extradited to the US

AUTHOR: M.J.
The "crypto currency" king Do Kwon will be extradited to the United States of America (USA), which is prosecuting him for criminal offenses committed in the field of financial operations, the Podgorica High Court announced.
This court rejected South Korea's request to extradite Do Kwon.
The decision to extradite Do Kwon to the US came after the Court of Appeal ordered the High Court to decide whether the "crypto currency king" should be extradited to South Korea or the United States.
In earlier decisions, the High Court stated that the conditions for Do Kwon's extradition were met and left it to the Minister of Justice, Andrej Milović, to decide which of the requesting countries he would give priority to.
However, the Court of Appeal indicated that the Minister of Justice decides only in regular extradition proceedings, and that the suspect Do Kwon agreed to be extradited, in a shortened procedure, to the countries that requested his extradition.
Do Kwon's defense attorney, lawyer Goran Rodić, previously announced for Pobjeda that his client, according to legal reasons, should be extradited to South Korea rather than to the United States of America (USA).
All legal reasons, i.e. the European Convention on Extradition, the bilateral agreement we have with America and the Montenegrin Law on International Legal Assistance 100% suggest that Do Kwon be extradited to South Korea, when such a decision is made - explained lawyer Rodić.
On the other hand, Justice Minister Andrej Milović, commenting on whether Do Kwon should be handed over to South Korea or the USA, stated that it was a political decision.
The USA is our main foreign policy partner, we want to sign a bilateral extradition agreement as soon as possible in order to create a legal framework for future extraditions - said Milović at the time.
"Crypto-currency king" Do Kwon and his associate Hon Chand Jun were arrested on March 23 last year at the Podgorica airport from where they tried to fly to Dubai with fake Costa Rican passports.
During the search, the police also found Belgian travel documents with them.
During the court proceedings before the Basic Court in Podgorica for the falsification of documents, the Koreans claimed during their defense that they had traveled around the world with Costa Rican and Belgian passports, which they obtained through an agency in Singapore, and that for this reason they had no doubts about their authenticity.
Do Kwon also said that, a few days after receiving the Belgian passports, he and his associate saw that the names and dates of birth in the passports were wrong and that they did not use them for that reason.
We did not suspect that such a mistake could occur, so we did not check the passports during the handover. At the moment when we applied for a Belgian passport, we also applied for Granada passports, that request was rejected, while our request for a Costa Rican passport was approved, as a result of which we built a relationship of trust with this agency - said Do Kwon.
Hon Chand Jun was extradited to South Korea 10 days ago.
