Progress in EU accession reforms, because Montenegro suffered from deep polarization and political instability in the reporting period, the EC, summarizing the report on our country presented in Brussels today.

The EU welcomes the constitution of the new parliament and the formation of the Government, from which we expect to quickly show their capacity and commitment to the European path of Montenegro and realize EU accession reforms - allegations from the EC.

They add that progress in the accession negotiations will depend on the reforms in the rule of law, ie meeting the interim measures listed in Chapters 23 and 24. EC welcomes that Montenegro continues to fully harmonize with a common external security policy.

According to the EC report, Montenegro has made limited progress in all relevant spheres of political and social action, such as judiciary and basic rights, fight against corruption and organized crime, freedom of expression, public administration reform.

The reporting period from June 2022 to June 2023 marked the tension and confrontation, which, as noted in the document, led to a blockade of the political system.

The political situation was dominated by a transitional government that did not have the trust of parliament and parliament that could not gather a clear and consistent majority for the implementation of reforms. Moreover, the boycott of a large part of the parliament influenced his work. There was no effective political dialogue and constructive engagement of political parties in order to strengthen parliamentary responsibility and government supervision - the report is stated.
