Montenegro has a unique opportunity to speed up its path towards the European Union (EU), said the envoy of the United States of America (USA) for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar.
Asked to comment on the start of consultations on the mandate for the composition of the new government, he told the MINA agency that the US is encouraged by Montenegro's democratic progress, which includes the recent smooth transition of presidential power and parliamentary elections.
"Montenegro now has a unique opportunity to speed up its path to the EU," said Eskobar.
As he stated, the recent presidential and parliamentary elections emphasized the strong desire of the citizens of Montenegro for European integration, Euro-Atlantic values, as well as their support for NATO.
Escobar repeated that the US is looking forward to the rapid formation of a new government.
"Whose members support Montenegro's accession to the EU, NATO's unique support for Ukraine, the civil nature of the state, respect for human rights, the improvement of conditions for the work of a dynamic civil society, and who strive to advance reforms to achieve those goals," specified Eskobar.
