EU Delegation About Batricevic: Authorities to refrain from actions that could limit freedom of speech

The Delegation of the European Union in Podgorica takes pressure on the representatives of the academic, media and civil society in Montenegro in Montenegro - order in the letter provided by the delivered antenna M.

They are aware, a professor's columnist case at FCJK Boban Batrićević, against whom the initiation of proceedings were asked for the pronounced attitudes in the column, which the antenna m announced on August 11th this year.

We are completely aware of this case. We seriously understand the pressure on representatives of academic, media and civil society. Freedom of expression is the basic value of the EU and the key element of the EU Montenegro accession process. Montenegrin authorities should refrain from any actions that could disproportate it - say from the delegation.

They state that it will continue to monitor the further development of events in this case, as part of their monitoring of the rule of law, which is essential for Montenegro's progress on the path of EU accession.

Recall, State Prosecutor Snežana Šišević asked the court for misdemeanors in Podgorica to initiate proceedings against Batrićević and Persecution by Article 19 of the Law on Public Order and Peace.

In Column Batrićević, he analyzed and presented the values of the behavior of the Church of Serbia in Montenegro and its local bishops. Šišević believes that the thesis that the Popovi of the Church of Serbia do not preach the faith of Christ and the argument of such an attitude violated the law and should be punished.

The Prosecutor's Procedure provoked the reactions of a large number of intellectuals, Montenegrin, but also international organizations that stale in the defense of freedom of speech.
