European Integration Main Catalyst Reforms in the region

The President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović is hosted by the Summit of the cooperation process in Southeast Europe (SEECP) in Podgorica, which ends the presidency of our country to this regional initiative.

We conclude today, which brought numerous challenges, who did even more obvious importance of close cooperation and partnership for lasting stability and the resistance of Southeast Europe - said Milatović at the opening of the summit.

He assessed that the past year was marked by a number of positive shifts on the European agenda, the opening of negotiations with Skopje and Tiran, giving candidate status to Sarajevo, Chisinau and recently, approval of visa liberalization for Pristina.

Asked as a comprehensive priority of our presidency, European integration remain the main catalyst of the necessary political, institutional, economic and security reforms for aspirants from our region and beyond. The region must find a consensus to move forward and accelerated the process of integration together. Membership in the European Union, therefore, should not be viewed as a one-time word, but as a permanent balance of mutual responsibility and benefits - the president of Montenegro said.

He reminded that Montenegro recently marked the 6th anniversary of NATO membership and that the Alliance's association could be seen as an introduction to EU countries.

Milatovic said that the privilege, that at the very beginning of the mandate, he has the opportunity to share the opinions on the possibilities of further development of regional cooperation within this important forum with the highest officials.

Montenegro attaches great importance to strengthening regional connections, and regional cooperation is viewed as a prerequisite of the overall development, stability and the better quality of life of all our citizens - the Montenegrin president pointed out.

He said the threats arose from Russia's invasion in Ukraine, the top of regional and European political agendas and added that SEECP members are deeply worried about current tensions in the region, and expected to get to viable through peace and dialogue Solutions.

He added that Montenegro was only three years ago experienced the first democratic transition and that lasting stability cannot be achieved without fully functional democracy.

Milatovic reminded that the Moto of the Presidency of Montenegro is the initiative "SEE OF CULTURE, SEE OF COOPERATION" and that the great potential for more intensive cooperation and mutual understanding is also incorporated into cultural connections that bring to the participants of SEECP.

The summit in which a joint declaration will be adopted, SEECP participants in the northern Macedonia, President of Kosovo, Bajram, President of Albania, Hrvatska Andrej Plenković, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of External Serbian Jobs Ivica Dacic, Deputy Prime Minister Moldova Oleg Serebrian, Secretary of Fedan, General Secretary of the Regional Cooperation Cooperation, as well as representatives of the European Commission, European Service for Foreign Affairs, Romania, Greece and Slovenia.

The SEECP presidency from Montenegro on July 1 shall be taken over by North Macedonia.
