Exercise "Immediate Response 23" in May in Montenegro

Commander of the First Infantry Battalion of the Army of Montenegro, Lt. Col. Miloš Gačević pointed out that the "Immediate Response 23" exercise will be held in our country in May, which will gather around 500 members of the armed forces of Montenegro and the USA, as part of the large international exercise "Defender Europe 23".
Close to 500 Montenegrin and American soldiers, including Croatian staff officers, will participate in the exercise. They will carry out activities in the wider area of the municipalities of Kolašin, Žabljak and Pljeval, and there will be an additional 120 participants in the exercise in the Port of Bar - Gačević announced as a guest on Radio Montenegro's "Epoleta" show.
He noted that Montenegrin soldiers will be sent to other participating countries in the "Defender Europe 23" exercise, with the main goal of conducting combat artillery fire.
He explained that "Defender Europe 23" is a large annual, multinational military exercise led by the US that brings together more than 25,000 NATO and partner soldiers.
As he pointed out, it was designed to build readiness and interoperability between NATO allies and other partner armies and train a quick, joint response to potential crises in Eastern Europe.
The large-scale movement of troops and equipment for that exercise implies extensive support from each host country, including Montenegro.
Gačević pointed out that the planning of such activities is extremely complex, and that the Army of Montenegro has been preparing for "Immediate Response 23" for more than 18 months.
