France is concerned, political actors to reach an agreement

France expressed concern over the worsening of the political crisis in Montenegro, which, they said, undermines the functioning of the country's democratic institutions and contributes to the slowdown of its European integration.
The announcement was published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France.
"The final vote on the last amendments to the law on the powers of the president of the state goes against the opinion of the Venice Commission, in the absence of a functional Constitutional Court. In order to progress towards EU membership, which is still the wish of the vast majority of Montenegrin citizens, political actors must show seriousness and refrain from any initiative that threatens the rule of law. France therefore calls on all political actors in Montenegro to engage in dialogue and seek a compromise regarding the appointment of judges in the Constitutional Court and on the way to resolving the current political impasse, in order to continue on the path of necessary reforms and rapprochement EU," reads the statement published on the website of the French ministry.
