Knežević to discover the authors of "Calendar"

AUTHOR: M.J.
The director of the Television of Montenegro, Milan Knežević, continued to publicly manipulate the public by asserting that "Cinderella" was written by Vuk Karadžić after all, during the discussion on the report of the Public Service Ombudsman Danijela Popović, who accepted the Media Center's objection to the content of the show "People/Events". and thereby compromises himself and the media he heads, the non-governmental organization said yesterday.
It is about a program segment that the Montenegrin Public Service takes over from, as they say in RTCG, "foreign production" and which often causes comments on social networks due to pushing Montenegrin history into the background, but also the abundance of omissions and incorrect information that is contents are placed in the public space.
Thus, in the segment broadcast on February 24, it was suggested that the Brothers Grimm took part of the fairy tales from the Serbian language, citing the fairy tales: "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", "Cinderella", "Ivica and Marica", "Little Red Riding Hood", "The Brave Tailor", "Toma Palčić" and "Sleeping Beauty".
German writer Wilhelm Grimm was born on this day in 1786, a collector and editor of folk tales, which, like most of his other works, he published in collaboration with his older brother Jakob. The Brothers Grimm also knew the Serbian language and took part of the fairy tales from the Serbian language - it was published on RTCG at the time.
Due to the scandalous omission in the show, the Media Center filed a complaint the following day with the ombudsman of the national public broadcaster, with the explanation that some of the professional standards prescribed by the internal rulebook on program principles and professional standards were violated.
In the complaint, they stated that, by placing information like this, it is suggested to those who are not familiar with the issue that these fairy tales are originally Serbian, and that the viewers could get the impression that it is about something that has long been established as truth, which cannot be objected to.
They also stated that it is true that the Brothers Grimm knew Vuk S. Karadžić and were friends with him, but also that it is also true that the first edition of their fairy tales appeared in 1812, before their acquaintance with Karadžić, and that their acquaintance dates back to only since 1823.
In addition, it is a well-known fact that the Grimm brothers took the fairy tales "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Cinderella" from Charles Perrault, a French writer born in 1628.
Ombudsman Popović said at the session of the RTCG Council on Tuesday that the Media Center accepted this objection, adding that the said show, also known as "Calendar", is disputed on several grounds, especially because the content is unsigned.
This is against the Law on Media, because every show that is broadcast on the Public Service must be signed. It must write whose production it is, etc. The director of the Television told me that it is a foreign product in which mistakes are sneaked in - Popović said.
She also recalled the segment related to the history of Montenegro, when it was about Bishop Danilo, and the content was "covered" with a portrait of Prince Danilo.
These are elementary things that we should not allow on the Public Service. Everything broadcast must be verifiable and accurate. If we make a mistake, and mistakes happen, everything is fine - said Popović.
However, as she said, the explanation that it is not a question of scientific content, but of educational and entertaining content, does not hold water because it would mean that the educational and entertaining content does not have to be accurate and does not have to be verified, which is worrying.
Director of TVCG Milan Knežević, in a short polemic with Popović, said that he understands every profession, emphasizing that his profession is literature, adding that scientific, literary and entertainment content are not the same, and that it is not possible to cite sources in short television form.
If the people from the Media Center became literary experts overnight, and determined what and who took from whom, then you could perhaps only partially accept their objection, because in that answer it is stated that Vuk Karadžić published his fairy tales, among which is "Cinderella", before the Brothers Grimm - said Knežević.
Academician Predrag Miranović, member of the council, pointed out to the Director of Television that children in schools study science and get an education, and that science and education cannot be separated, adding that science can sometimes be fun.
The author is not expected to cite sources in the show, but if there is any doubt that what he said is not true, he must cite them in the answer to the objection. This response insists that the author is right. Anyone can check in two clicks on the Internet that the first version of "Cinderella" was published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812 - he said.
Miranović said that it is not difficult to determine the source of the information that the author posted in the disputed content.
Also via Google, take that sentence of his, check on which other portals that sentence appears, and you will see that it is of questionable scientific and educational legitimacy - said Miranović.
Yesterday, in response to Knežević's claims, the Media Center asked who edits "Calendar" and how the director of TVCG knows that Vuk Karadžić wrote the fairy tale "Cinderella", stating that they are not a non-governmental organization that deals with literature, so they cannot be big either. not even small connoisseurs of literature, but that they are interested in the fact that no one knowingly, or out of ignorance, misleads the Montenegrin public.
That is why the Media Center likes to check, as it did in the case of disputed content published in "Kalendar" on February 24 of this year. That check resulted in the knowledge that the Brothers Grimm took some of the fairy tales, including the fairy tale "Cinderella", from Charles Perrault, a French writer born in 1628. His version of the fairy tale, of the countless that exist, including the one recorded by Vuk Karadžić, is the most famous - they point out in their response.
In addition, as they state, the Media Center is interested, as well as a large part of the citizens of Montenegro who finance the national public media service, to find out who is preparing the content for the show "Calendar", which is not foreseen in the production plan for 2024, who is editor of that show and why his name is hidden from the public.
We expect TVCG director Milan Knežević to reveal the sources for his claim that Vuk Karadžić wrote the fairy tale "Cinderella". We would also like the director of TVCG to reveal the identity of the editor of the "Calendar" show, so that we can ask him a question regarding the disputed content, to which the Media Center publicly reacted - the reaction concludes.
