Kovač: Montenegro is the latest trophy of Vučić's conception of the "Serbian world"

SOURCE: POBJEDA / M.J.
Montenegro is the newest trophy of the concept of the so-called of the "Serbian world" of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. Vučić managed to get pro-Serbian politicians to form the government, said the former Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs Miro Kovač.
In an interview with Novi list, Kovač said that Montenegro "fell into the hands" of pro-Serbian cadres.
As far as I hear from friends from Montenegro, pro-Serbian-oriented cadres have taken over all key cultural and educational institutions. So it could be said that Montenegro fell into their hands. It is a similar development to that before and after the First World War. And then official Serbia politically "conquered" sovereign Montenegro - he said.
In his opinion, the West had no mechanisms to prevent it.
After all, Montenegro was largely divided even at the time of independence. There is also the fact that Montenegro joined the NATO alliance, which is the strongest transatlantic structure of the political West. The unspoken logic of the West is the following: the area of the Western Balkans is bordered by EU member states, some of these states, North Macedonia and Montenegro, are members of NATO. In that area, there is no real danger for the survival of the political West and the EU. It is believed that the instability there can be solved in the long term by integration methods. Therefore, it is not a vital area for the EU and the political West - Kovač said, among other things.
He stated that Montenegro is in the NATO alliance, and that it is not realistic that the Montenegrin leadership will seek an exit from it.
Kovač does not see a real danger to the security of the political West.
After all, Montenegro is not as big as Ukraine. However, there may be another way of thinking that has not yet been articulated, that is not being talked about publicly. Namely, if part of the Serbian corps is in Montenegro, after the census we will see what that number is, then that corps is also "constituent" in the NATO alliance, which in the long run could help to "bring" Serbia into the circle of countries connected to the West. , without being formally included in it - emphasized Kovač.
According to his opinion, Serbia has already informally "got" Montenegro.
Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, we are only simulating, Serbia can again declare a state union with Montenegro. It is theoretically possible, but there is no need for it. It also has the Republic of Srpska as a special partner in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She doesn't even have to insist on "joining" because that would just be a burden on her. For Serbia, only the issue of Kosovo remains unresolved. For Aleksandar Vučić, it is the biggest challenge. Maybe he wants, that's probably why he called the elections for December last year, to wait for the coming to power of the American administration, which would be inclined to solve some problems in the Western Balkans in a different way - Kovač pointed out.
The Croatian minority should be respected regardless of who is in power
Commenting on the relations between Montenegro and Croatia, Kovač says that it is in Croatia's interest that they be friendly.
We are neighbors, partners in the NATO alliance. Montenegro is negotiating membership in the EU. It is in Croatia's interest to join us in the EU in the near future. We expect, of course, that the Croatian autochthonous national minority in Montenegro is respected, regardless of who is in power - said Kovač.
