Marković: The resolution on Jasenovac is a serious failure that will endanger our European path

AUTHOR: M.J.
The political approach of proposing and then adopting the Resolution on Jasenovac by the parliamentary majority caused enormous damage to Montenegro - the leader of the Party of European Progress, Duško Marković.
He underlined that due to this act, the European path of Montenegro will be slowed down and stopped.
- Croatia will react in some way, because there are many tools that the member states of the European Union have in their hands when protecting their own interests and those of the EU - points out Marković, in an interview for the Kontakt show on RTV Nikšić.
He emphasizes that Montenegro will suffer because of this decision, and the first reactions are the cancellation of the visit of Charles Michel, President of the European Council, which, as he points out, is a "serious political and diplomatic slap to the current government" because of which all of Montenegro will suffer.
- I think that the adoption of the Resolution in Jasenovac was not an original decision of Montenegro, but rather stemmed from a regional, wider interest that arose from the decision to adopt the Resolution in Srebrenica. When it comes to that terrible crime in Jasenovac, there was never a dilemma about it, not even in the great Yugoslavia, which is why the Memorial Center was built. Official Croatia never denied that genocide, but always honored the victims with reverence. Montenegro had no special national, state interest in dealing with that issue and adopting the Resolution. Especially when the issue was not raised by the Republic of Serbia in its parliament, which has many more reasons and motives to engage in that process, but it did not. The procedure of the Montenegrin government is an inexplicable, serious political and democratic failure. This will endanger Montenegro on the EU path and that is a fact - believes Marković.
Commenting on the socio-political situation in Montenegro, Marković believes that "we live in institutional and social disorder".
- We are witnessing the accelerated devastation of the state and its institutions. The political and social environment is marked by irresponsibility and frivolity. The Government had disagreements on numerous issues, around key topics. One day priorities and goals are announced, the next day they are abandoned. In the parliament, the Montenegrin house of democracy, things are not as they should be. It is not an environment that is encouraging and gives citizens hope - says Marković.
Marković sees the formation of new parties as a greater opportunity for citizens to choose.
- I believe that it will lead to changes in the political scene and that it can only be useful for Montenegro. This is the strengthening of democracy, and it is in conflict with what is the strengthening of the political monopoly - points out Marković.
He adds that if there are extraordinary parliamentary elections in Podgorica, the SEP will be ready to participate, which, he says, will be an incentive for extraordinary parliamentary elections, which he hopes will be held next year.
