Milatović's statement is dangerous, there is no playing with state symbols

The spokesperson of the Social Democrats and the candidate for MP of the electoral list Zajedno Nikola Zirojević referred to the controversial statement of President Jakov Milatović about the potential change of state symbols.

As Zirojević said, every beginning is difficult, so he wants to believe that the reckless and dangerous statement of the President of the country is the result of his inability to find a new job, and not bad intentions and the announcement of following the policy of the former DF.

But, unfortunately, this is not the first gesture by which Milatović expresses his agreement with the retrograde ideas of the New Serbian Democracy and the MP who demonstrates his attitude towards the state by not standing for the national anthem. That is why I believe that it is necessary to warn President Milatović in good faith - no playing with the state symbols of Montenegro - said Zirojević.

As he pointed out, it is fundamentally incorrect that state symbols are the result of insufficient inclusivity because the Montenegrin Constitution was adopted by the votes of 55 deputies in the Assembly.

That is almost 68% of the total number of deputies. If we put things this way, it is significantly more than the percentage of votes that Milatović won, so with the same logic we could say that it is possible to reconsider the President of Montenegro himself and, if we do not like him, appoint someone else who suits us better. You misunderstood democracy, Mr. Milatović. Not everything can be reviewed. It is not possible to review, say, a woman's right to vote and be elected, it is not possible to review the freedom of movement (which is also a Constitutional category), it is not possible to review many things because, in that way, you would turn democracy into anarchy. And it is also not possible to change state symbols just because Jelena Božović or Jakov Milatović do not like them - Zirojević added.

He told the President of the country - that democracy would not become anarchy, it implies some obligations in addition to the rights it guarantees us.

One of those obligations is to respect the law and the constitutional order of the country in which we live. Regardless of whether it was a citizen who is employed in the state administration, a bank, whether it was a car mechanic or a hairdresser, or, in the end, it was the President of Montenegro, we all have that obligation. Respect the Constitution and laws, President of the State. Respect the flag that, as the first man of this country, you represent inside and outside of Montenegro. Respect the anthem that opened the session where you were inaugurated. That's the only way you can be the democratic president you want to be - concluded Zirojević.
