Milatović: The government ignores the call for consultations on foreign policy

The government ignores the need to establish a dialogue on the coordination of foreign policy, and primarily the issue of filling the diplomatic network, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.

Milatović told journalists, after the ceremony on the occasion of 20 years of operation of the Ombudsman institution, that the Cabinet of the President sent a letter to the Government at the beginning of November because he wanted to start foreign policy consultations.

Despite our persistence, it seems to me that the government is currently ignoring the need to establish a formal and civilized dialogue on the coordination of foreign policy, and above all to open up issues concerning the filling of our diplomatic network, which, as you know, is quite empty - he said is Milatović.

He said that Montenegro does not have ambassadors at many important international addresses and that this is a very important and urgent issue that must be jointly opened and agreed upon.

Milatović stated that the Government proposes ambassadors, after which opinions are given by the competent committee of the Assembly and the President of the State.

That is an important issue that we need to agree on. One invitation to the Government and all actors in that process to come to the foreign policy consultations to which they were duly invited by the President of the State - said Milatović, appealing to the Government to show seriousness and responsibility in relation to this issue.

Asked if this means that the communication between the government and the president did not go well, he said that it was a question for the government.

The president called for consultations several times. As to why they haven't happened yet, I assume that it is still not a priority for the Government - said Milatović.

"Radović is an adequate candidate for the first governor of the CBCG"

Milatović believes that Irena Radović will be elected governor of the Central Bank, otherwise someone, as he said, will have to answer the public why people close to the regime of the previous head of state should remain at its head.

I proposed Radović because I believe that at this moment, in relation to all the challenges that the CBCG will face, academic references and professional experience, she is an adequate candidate for the first governor of the CBCG - Milatović told reporters after the ceremony on the occasion of 20 years of operation of the Ombudsman institution .

He said that he had not heard of a better proposal in relation to academic and professional references.

You know that the President of Montenegro does not have to carry out any consultations in this sense, that's why the legislator proposed the governor to the President of Montenegro, in order to get out of a kind of political agreements and to get one person who is outside of some daily politics - he said is Milatović.

He stated that he had done some informal consultations and that he thinks Radović will be elected governor.

Otherwise, someone will have to answer the Montenegrin public why people still close to the regime of the previous president, Milo Đukanović, should remain at the head of that financial institution - said Milatović.

He stated that these are questions that should be asked of someone else, not the president of the country.

When asked whether the Europe Now Movement (PES) will support the appointment of Radović, Milatović replied that he is probably the PES.
