Milatović: The majority showed an attitude towards the European perspective

AUTHOR: M.J.
By not attending today's meeting, the leaders of the parties of the parliamentary majority showed their attitude towards the European perspective of Montenegro, said the country's president Jakov Milatović, adding that he wanted to point out to the representatives of the ruling parties the mistakes and damage they are causing to the national interest.
Milatović told reporters in front of Villa Gorica, after talking with the leaders of some parliamentary parties, that the situation is complicated after the cancellation of the visit of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and other political events in the country.
Milatović pointed out that he was sorry that some of the parties did not respond to the invitation to the meeting.
"I think that they showed their attitude towards the European future of Montenegro," said Milatović.
As he said, the meeting was constructive and he conveyed to the representatives of the parties his impressions from his visit to Brussels on Tuesday.
Milatović believes that organizing the meeting was a responsible move.
"The European perspective is the most important foreign policy priority of Montenegro, and I am amazed by the attitude of the parliamentary majority towards European integration, which was demonstrated by today's failure to attend the meeting," said Milatović.
Milatović assessed that the situation regarding the European road is worrisome.
"Once again, I appeal to the decision-makers not to relativize things, not to diminish the significance of certain of their actions, because that is not a responsible approach and the way in which citizens should be treated," said Milatović.
As he said, everyone must be aware that the first man of the EU has postponed his visit to Montenegro.
"At the moment when the visit was supposed to represent the crown of the joint action of all political actors in the issue of obtaining a positive IBAR", said Milatović.
He stated that, just two days after receiving the IBAR, a decision was made in the Assembly which at this moment harms the state's interests.
"Prime Minister Milojko Spajić said earlier in an interview that such a decision harms the state interests of Montenegro, and then his party adopts that decision, which, according to him, harms the state interests," said Spajić.
He asked how they could do something that harms the state's interests.
"I think this is extremely irresponsible behavior. "Then what are certain political actors, including the Prime Minister, ready to do to the detriment of the state interests of Montenegro, knowing the things that are being done to the detriment of the state interests," said Milatović.
Asked about the opposition's messages that extraordinary parliamentary elections should be organized, Milatović said that they discussed the current situation in the country at the meeting today.
"I wanted to point out the mistakes they are currently making and the damage they are causing to the state's interest in the conversation with the parliamentary majority," said Milatović.
He pointed out that today they did not discuss possible ways out of a difficult situation.
Asked to comment on allegations that by organizing the meeting he stepped outside his constitutional powers, Milatović said that the president has the greatest political legitimacy in the country, because he was directly elected by the citizens to represent them in the country and abroad in accordance with the Constitution.
"Not coming to the conversation and dialogue is a bad message sent to the democratic development and European perspective of Montenegro," concluded Milatović.
