Timonije: Expectations were not met

In order for Montenegro to become part of the European Union (EU), there must be democratic institutions that enable the implementation of control at all levels of government, said the Ambassador of France in Podgorica, Kristijan Timonije.

He told NOVA M that this year's report of the European Commission pointed to something of major importance, namely the alignment of Montenegro's policy with the EU's foreign and security policy.

As Timonije stated, it is a marker that is very important in the context of the international crisis, even more important than ever because it shows that Montenegro is already in the Union and with the Union and that the policy advocated by Montenegro is leading the country towards the EU.

Timonije said that the second aspect concerns political stability in the country.

"In order for Montenegro to be able to integrate, it is necessary that there are institutions that are respected, democratic institutions that enable the implementation of judicial control at all levels of government," said Timonije.

As he stated, without this control there is no rule of law, without the rule of law there is no entry into the EU.

"We invite participants in political life, parties and everyone else, to unite so that the voice of Montenegro can be better heard, because if the political crisis is resolved, its voice will be stronger and more respected," said Timonije.

He said that they expected a lot from Montenegro this year.

"We had an intergovernmental conference in December last year, then a new government whose priority should have been membership in the EU, I would even say the reason for its existence, and it is clear that the expectations of the citizens, as well as ours, were not met," said Timonije.
