Montenegro must pay more attention to the diaspora

The president of the oldest association of Montenegrins "Cetinje" from Illinois in the United States of America, Mirsad Jahović, met in Podgorica with the spokesman of the Social Democrats of Montenegro, Nikola Zirojević. During the conversation, it was noted that the current government has completely marginalized emigrant associations with Montenegrin characteristics. Jahović pointed out to Zirojević that after the parliamentary elections in August 2020, Montenegrin emigrants have been marginalized by the government and its institutions and all forms of cooperation with them have been completely terminated. Jahović also emphasized that in the previous period, since the establishment of the Diaspora Administration, associations with a Montenegrin sign were unfairly neglected, but there was some kind of communication and cooperation, which was not the case in the previous two years.
Zirojević informed Jahović about SD's intention to pay more attention to the Montenegrin diaspora in the coming period and to intensify cooperation with our emigrant associations and individuals. The interlocutors agreed that the Montenegrin diaspora has always stood by its country in good times and in difficult times. It was assessed that our country is facing the most difficult times in recent history in the past two years, and that the help of the diaspora to get out of this situation caused by the current government will be of great importance. It was also agreed that in the coming period the cooperation between SD and the association "Cetinje" will be intensified. Jahović concluded that in the coming period the Social Democrats will have the full support of the members of that association, as well as the Montenegrin diaspora in the United States of America.
