Montenegro needs urgent reforms

The conference of European liberals, the parliamentary group of the EP "Renew Europe", together with European commissioners, members of the European Parliament, representatives of international organizations and leaders of liberal parties was held in Brussels. As announced by the LP, the president of the Liberal Party Andrija Popović also participated in the Conference.
Popović said that "Montenegro has been in an institutional and political crisis for a long time, and that after the right-wing, clerical, nationalist government came to power, the concept of Montenegro as a citizen of the state and its pro-European path and further democratization were called into question." .
He said that it is crucially important to maintain strong support for the idea of European unity and integration in Montenegro, especially in the time of the rise of populism and nationalism, and that civil forces in Montenegro expect clear, unambiguous and strong support from European partners in their struggle to preserve constitutionality , the rule of law and civil society, but also the support of citizens for the country's European path, which the pro-Russian and pro-Serbian governments completely stopped.
"At the conference, Popović also met with the special envoy for the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajčak, the leader of the ALDE group, Ilhan Kjučuk, Roman Jakič, the leader of the LIBSEEN liberals of Southeast Europe, and other leaders. He discussed with them the prospects of further democratization and reforms in Montenegro and the necessity of urgent change in the state," the statement concluded.
