Nikolić: The political showdown with the Gradska TV Council exposes the undemocratic nature of the authorities in Podgorica

Despite the fact that media freedom is one of the key conditions on the way to the European Union (EU), the authorities in Podgorica have no intention of giving up the political showdown with the City Television Council, said Andrija Nikolić, member of the presidency and deputy of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).
He underlined that the government that does not respect the role of critical media is not democratic and does not look up to the EU - but to countries that punish journalists and stifle freedom of expression.
In order to silence any criticism on their account, they concocted a plan to supposedly free Gradska TV from political control in the month of annual vacations, but in fact to install their own - politically suitable editorial board. If the political entities in power in the capital persist in their plan, they will be directly responsible for the potential damage that will be recorded in the reports of the EC on the progress of Montenegro, but also in the proceedings before the Montenegrin courts - said Nikolić in his response.
