Popa: Withdrawal amendments to the President Act

All political actors in Montenegro must urgently take action to ensure the functioning of the Constitutional Court and withdraw the amendments to the President Act, said the head of the European Union (EU) delegation in Podgorica, Oana Kristina Popa.

She pointed out that it is crucial that everyone in Montenegro shows maximum restraint and maintain from further provocative actions.

Popa wrote on tweet that Montenegro missed another opportunity to name the judges of the Constitutional Court and end the long -standing institutional crisis.

The completely functional Constitutional Court in Montenegro, with competent members in the composition, is crucial to the state to protect the basic rights of its citizens and to progress in the European path - Popa said.

She believes that it is necessary without delay to make a new call for candidates for filling out vacancies in the Constitutional Court and a proper and inclusive selection process.

The Assembly voting for the adoption of amendments to the President's Act is opposed to the recommendation of the Venetian commission that the law does not adopt, until the Constitutional Court becomes fully operating and is in a position to evaluate its constitutionality after adoption - Popa pointed out.
