Remembrance Day - wreaths were placed on the monument in Tološi

The delegations of Montenegro, the United Kingdom and the United States laid wreaths at the monument that was erected in Tološi in 2009 in the name of the fallen Allied aircrews who gave their lives for freedom in the period from 1939 to 1945, announced the British Embassy in Podgorica.

British Ambassador to Montenegro Karen Maddox said that this gathering on November 11 aims to remember "as we do every year in the United Kingdom, those who gave their lives fighting for peace and freedom".

She reminded that this monument is dedicated to the American and British air forces who died for the cause of peace and freedom during the Second World War.

"On this day, we also remember our people and our allies who continue to fight for peace and freedom today - including our friends from Ukraine. We remember so that future generations will remember and understand why it is important to fight for peace." Maddox added.

Chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy, Chris Karber, said that recognition of the sacrifices of our countries' veterans reminds us that Montenegro, the United Kingdom and the United States strongly share the values of freedom and independence.

"For the sake of their memory and for the sake of the future of our children, European and American allies will never back down in defending their common goal, which is a Europe that is united, free and in which peace reigns," said Karber.

Interior Minister Filip Adžić pointed out that it was an honor for him to be in that place on a day dedicated to thinking about and remembering the sacrifices made for freedom by allied pilots.

He said that it is important to reverently remember the hundreds of thousands of civilians who gave their lives to the innocent, as well as the soldiers who fought heroically in the battles for the defense and freedom of their homelands in World War I from 1914 to 1918.

"Montenegro, as an allied country, has always been committed to defending the freedom we enjoy today. Considering the global security environment, I want to emphasize that it is more than ever necessary to learn from the lessons of history and work together to preserve world peace and stability. On Remembrance Day, our thoughts are devoted to the enormous cost of war and the toll it takes, not only on those who fell for freedom, but also on those who served it," Adžić concluded.

The delegation of the United Kingdom was led by Karen Maddox, the British ambassador to Montenegro; Lt. Col. Timothy White-Boycott, Military Attaché and Major Imran Ahsan, Deputy Military Attaché. At the head of the Montenegrin delegation were the head of the Ministry of Defense, the Minister of the Interior, Filip Adžić; Krsto Perović, State Secretary and Lt. Col. Željko Radulović, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, while the US delegation was headed by Chris Karber, Chargé d'Affaires at the United States Embassy, along with Lt. Col. Alan Griskević, Military Attaché.
