Russia will interfere in the upcoming elections in various ways, act in time

The president of the Social Democrats, Damir Šehović, said that Russia will interfere in various ways in the upcoming presidential elections in Montenegro, which will be held on March 19. He believes that the same scenario is ready for the expected parliamentary elections.
"That is why our NATO and other partners must open their eyes wide and have a proactive role, in order to prevent any malignant influence that has a serious potential to threaten in time, before it is too late for such a thing, together with the proven Euro-Atlantic political structures in our country. democratic values that we share as partner countries. It would be politically naive and state irresponsible to expect that Russia will not take advantage of the space that was unfortunately opened to it after the last parliamentary elections in Montenegro," said Šehović, on the occasion of the security conference "How to counterbalance Russian aggression in Ukraine", which was held in the US Congress in Washington.
He claims that it is not only an impression, but also an easily proven fact that Russia unfortunately remains both present and active in the Balkans, making it politically unstable, but also prone to inter-national tensions, institutional stagnation and the decline of democracy, which, he said, is a growing concern. for the overall performance and stability of our region.
"We already know what its main strongholds are in the region, but consciously or unconsciously it has recently become the official Podgorica, thanks to the outgoing minority government and the government that preceded it. Since the political changes in 2020, Russia has, in different, unique ways, constantly increased its presence in Montenegro, following the well-known matrix of encouraging its political instability, and the current parliamentary majority and the outgoing government are responsible, by action or inaction, for allowing such influence that resulted in a complete institutional standstill and an overall political and social crisis," concluded Šehović .
In addition to Šehović, MPs Branimir Gvozdenović and Andrija Nikolić participated in the forum "How to counterbalance Russian aggression in Ukraine".
In Washington, Šehović is attending the 71st Prayer Breakfast, hosted by US President Joe Biden, where, in addition to participating in the program organized as part of the national prayer breakfast on February 1 and 2, he will have the opportunity to meet with guests and members of Congress and the Senate. of the USA, which will be significant for the exchange of opinions on numerous political, economic, and security challenges that the modern world is facing.
