SIJARTO: That most EU members support expansions, Montenegro would not wait for 16 years

Foreign Minister Hungary Peter Sijarto said that his country's enlargement policy is one of the most important and most significant policies of the European Union, but points out that it is not the position of most member states in the EU.

We are absolutely to expand because we believe that freshness, new incentive, new energy and dynamics, which are very necessary today, can only come from the Western Balkans that want to develop, which are ambitious and which are also much developed in recent years. For us, the EU is an unfinished job without the Western Balkans. However, we need to be aware of a very important thing, and that is that although most members of the EU are positively speaking, supporting the expansion openly and before the public, but is the minority of the members of the expansion - said Sijarto in an interview for the day.

If this wasn't like that, he says, we wouldn't wait 16 years.

You started negotiations on accession 12 years ago. Thus, the length of this procedure is very well shown by the skepticism of the majority of EU members. We, as a country that supports expansion, must take advantage of our semi-annual chairperson to give an incentive, accelerating the expansion process. And when it comes to Montenegro, we are really sure that Montenegro is ready for accession, and the EU would also benefit from that accession. Therefore, over the next six months, we will provide all the necessary support for progress - the SIJARTO points out.

He also says that he expects Montenegro to close up to 10 chapters during the Hungarian presidency.

In particular, we will convene a session of the Intergovernmental Commission between the EU and Montenegro in order to start closing chapters. Because, Montenegro, you opened all chapters, all chapters of accession negotiations, 33. Unfortunately, none yet closed. We believe you have done enough to start closing chapters. We see that it is realistic that it will close close to 10 chapters during our presidency - Sijarto said.
