The detention of Vesna Medenica was terminated, Miloš Medenica remains behind bars

The decision to cancel detention was made by the High Court after the defense appealed to the Court of Appeals against the previous decision that extended her stay in the Pre-trial Prison.

Medenica is accused by the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) of having committed criminal acts of creating a criminal organization and illegal influence.

The former president of the Supreme Court of Montenegro was arrested on April 17 this year, at Podgorica Airport.

At that time, she was suspected of participating in a criminal group led by her son Miloš Medenica.

In relation to Miloš Medenica, Marko Vučinić and Marjan Bevenja, the Court of Appeal confirmed the decision of the High Court, which extended their detention, Marija Raković, advisor for public relations of the High Court, announced for TVCG.

The hearing to review the indictment against Medenica and others is scheduled for November 17 in the High Court in Podgorica.

In addition to Medenica, the indictment was also brought against Darko Lalović, Vasilij Petrović, Bojan and Marko Popović, Milica Vlahović Milosavljević, Marko Vučinić, Milorad Medenica, Luka Bakoč, Petar Milutinović, Ivana Kovačević, Radomir Raičević, Marjan Bevenja, Steve Karanikić and Goran Jovanović and "Kopad Company" DOO Nikšić...

As stated in the indictment, they are suspected of the criminal offenses of creating a criminal organization, the extended criminal offense of smuggling, the extended criminal offense of giving bribes, receiving bribes, illegal influence and inducing illegal influence, abuse of official position, unauthorized production, possession and distribution of narcotic drugs, facilitating the consumption of narcotic drugs, illegal possession of weapons and explosive substances, serious bodily injury and preventing evidence.

The defendant Miloš Medenica is accused, among other things, of having, in 2019, created a criminal organization, the members of which were the defendant Vesna Medenica, nine defendants and a defendant legal entity, with the aim of smuggling cigarettes and illegally influencing the judiciary , and for the purpose of acquiring illegal profit and power, and that, in co-perpetration with the accused members of a criminal organization, evading customs supervision measures, from the Free Customs Zone of the port of Bar, he smuggled cigarettes into the customs area of ​​Montenegro, for sale, with the help of false documentation and giving bribes to the accused customs officers.

Vesna Medenici is accused of committing, in the period from 2019 to 2021, that, using her official position as president of the Supreme Court of Montenegro and her presumed influence, as a former president of that court, she would mediate certain civil cases that were were conducted before the High Court in Podgorka and the Supreme Court of Montenegro ended in favor of the companies "Fab Live" and "Cijevna Commerce", regardless of the factual situation, in which the defendant Miloš Medenica and certain members of the criminal organization helped her, and that was accused of illegal influence by the defendants Popović and Petrović, and that a bribe was given for her mediation.

Medenica is also suspected that, at the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, as the president of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, she encouraged the defendant Milica Vlahović Milosvaljević, a judge of the Commercial Court of Montenegro, to abuse her official position in litigation, and contrary to the Law on Enforcement and Security, passed a temporary measure in favor of Rad Arsić, the godfather of the defendant Vesna Medenica, and his company, which severely violated the rights of the other litigant.

Also, as stated, Medenica is also accused of mediating in 2019, as the president of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, using her official position, and in 2022, as the former president of that court, using her social position and assumed influence. judges of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, i.e. judges of the Basic Court in Herceg Novi, to perform official actions contrary to the Law on Judicial Council and Judges, i.e. the Law on Civil Procedure, and make a decision in the case in favor of the company "Carine".

Darko Lalević is suspected of having, in 2020, by using his official position as an officer of the Police Administration, unauthorized mediation in the purchase of narcotic drugs for the defendant Miloš Medenica, who is accused of giving the purchased drugs to others to enjoy, but also of being in the house held weapons prohibited for citizens and carried them in a public place.
