The General Assembly of Montenegro proclaimed Bishop Boris as the Metropolitan of the CPC

Today, the General Assembly of Montenegro declared His Eminence Bishop Boris of Ostroško-Nikšić to be the Metropolitan of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church (CPC).
At the assembly, decisions were made to retire the current head of the CPC, Mihailo, and to canonize the restorer of the CPC, Antonije Abramović, and proclaim her as Saint Anthony, Metropolitan of Montenegro.
We, the Orthodox Montenegrins, the faithful of our holy CPC, gathered at the General Assembly of Montenegro, make the decision that Metropolitan Mihailo of Montenegro, due to his age, and in recent years his lack of commitment to the service of the bishop, will retire, retaining the lifelong dignity of the metropolitan guaranteed by the Constitution and the canon, with the title of retired metropolitan Montenegrin - said deacon Stefan Marković in his speech.
After that, metropolitan insignia were presented to Metropolitan Boris. During that time, the citizens chanted "Long live the bishop! Worthy!”
At the beginning of his presentation, Metropolitan Boris thanked Mihail for all the good he did while he was the head of the CPC.
We have clear obligations and activities ahead of us. To form the Metropolitan Council and the Management Board together. Let us renew the work of the Holy Synod with the bishops and the clergy and make decisions that would lead the CPC out of the crisis and to pass a Constitution that would never again allow anyone to block the work of the CPC - said Boris.
He particularly emphasized that a legal team should be formed that will initiate proceedings against institutions and individuals for the seizure of Montenegrin churches and monasteries.
A team that will adequately respond to any violation of the human and religious rights of Orthodox Montenegrins and will help everyone to exercise their rights before the state authorities. Who will negotiate with the state and initiate the registration of parishes in all states where there is a Montenegrin diaspora. To form a team of distinguished Montenegrins from the field of diplomacy who will prepare all the activists of the CPC and the diplomatic corps. It is mandatory to initiate procedures for the admission of the CPC to international organizations of churches such as the European Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches - he stated.
He said that a finance authority should be formed that will prepare annual budget plans for the CPC.
It is necessary to set a salary for the clergy so that they can function, at the level of the average salary in the country. It is necessary to form church councils and committees in all cities and municipalities and organize the appointment of a parish priest... In order to realize all this, we all need to unite. We invite all of you, sincere and professional people, to create a social movement that will help the CPC to be the most important spiritual institution of the Montenegrin Orthodox people, as it has been throughout history - said Boris.
Perović: The General Assembly of Montenegro has a legitimate right to elect a new Metropolitan
Chairman of the Committee for the Preservation of the CPC Milenko Perović said that it is well known who fears the powerful voice of the CPC, which would demand that all the Orthodox sacred treasures that were robbed be returned to Montenegro.
People appealed to CPC leaders to find a solution. Eminent people spoke with the metropolitan so that he could retire while maintaining the dignity of a metropolitan with all the privileges that belong to him. He resolutely rejected the idea. By blocking the work of the Synod, the metropolitan de facto blocked any legal and legitimate discussion in the church about his work. Indirectly, he introduced the dogma of infallibility and immutability of the metropolitan into the church - Perović pointed out.
According to him, separating from all the organs of the church, from the bishops, clergy and believers - Mihailo has de facto retired, regardless of whether he is aware of it.
Since the time of Crnojević, the General Assembly of Montenegro was a specific Montenegrin Republic. It was an expression of direct democracy, akin to the ancient Hellenic one, for centuries it had the greatest legitimacy in decision-making in state and church matters. The General Assembly of Montenegro gave the highest legitimacy to the restoration of the Montenegrin church in 1993. The congregation elected Antoni Abramović as the first metropolitan. Mihailo Dedić was elected Metropolitan by the General Assembly of Montenegro in 1998. As much legitimacy was there when he chose him, there is as much legitimacy in the choir's right to accept his decision to retire - he emphasizes.
He added that the General Assembly of Montenegro has a legitimate right to elect a new Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro.
He has the right to choose him from among the most visible Montenegrins who have donned bishop's robes, who have proven their deep Montenegrin patriotism and ability to lead the church with their vision and enormous energy. Long live CPC, long live Montenegro! - said Perović.
The General Montenegrin Choir began by singing the Montenegrin national anthem, and is held in Prijestonica.
Previously, the vicar bishop of Ostroško-Nikšić Boris and the Committee for the Preservation of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church pointed out in the invitation that the assembly was convened "at the request of the clergy and believers of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church".
