At the session held yesterday, the Municipal Committee of the Civic Movement URA Nikšić made a decision to deny support to the president of the Nikšić Municipality, Marko Kovačević.
- After he refused to apologize to the Montenegrin public for the words he uttered in an address marking the anniversary of the Battle of Grahovac, with which he unequivocally discriminated against people of other national and ideological affiliations, it is clear that he can no longer have our support - OO URA Nikšić announced .
They add that he was given the mandate to be the President of the Municipality at the service of all the citizens of Nikšić, regardless of their national, religious or any other commitment.
- And not to publish chauvinistic and offensive statements that undermine all the painstaking efforts to build reconciliation in Montenegro and constantly encourage tensions and hatred that destroy the civil being of our country - said the URE from Nikšić.
OO URA Nikšić called on all civil parties, above all the Democrats, who are constituents of the local government in Nikšić, to do the same and deny support to Kovačević, if they stick to the civic and European values they represent. Without disputing the results achieved in correct cooperation with the representatives of the local administration in the past three years, they see two solutions as a way out of the current situation - first, that the current majority in the local parliament propose a new president of the Municipality who will be the president of all citizens, and who will not to discriminate against anyone with inflammatory speeches, and secondly, to shorten the mandate of the assembly and go to new local elections.
Commenting on the DPS initiative, the Nikšić URE points out that it was the DPS that destroyed Nikšić, left behind millions of debts and devastated the city. URE reminds that in that period the most important state positions were occupied by people from Nikšić, starting with Mr. Đukanović and continuing, and people from Nikšić can see how they have repaid their city.
- Therefore, those who destroyed Nikšić cannot have our support, nor those who advocate positions that encourage national and religious tensions - concluded the Nikšić URE.
We remind you that the President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, during his speech at the commemoration of the 166th anniversary of the Battle of Grahova, addressing "former rulers and their successors", said, among other things, that with those who will not be like brothers, but look like Turks, to act like the Turks.
