"The pro-Serbian and pro-Russian coalition is a constant threat, stop the destruction of Montenegro"

A group of Montenegrin journalists, academics and intellectuals, as reported by "Pobjeda", sent an open letter to the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, in which they express concern about the current situation in the country in which, as they state, the "Europe Now" Movement with leaders Jakov Milatović and Milojko Spajić, as well as Prime Minister Dritan Abazović, his GP URA and the rest of the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian coalition represent a constant threat to the safety of citizens, journalists, and intellectuals in the country.
The signatories of the letter, who gathered today in front of the headquarters of the EU Delegation in Podgorica, point out that for the last two years the ruling majority has been doing significant damage to the basic values stated in the Montenegrin Constitution and endangering our country, society and their future.
The signatories note that in the letter they emphasize the desire of 85 percent of Montenegrins who support our country to join the EU family based on values that ensure democracy and peace.
They add that the pro-Russian and pro-Serbian coalition won last week's local elections in Podgorica, in which the "Europe Now" Movement led by Jakov Milatović and Milojko Spajić won 20 percent of the vote. They point out that there have been numerous threats to journalists, peace activists and attacks on civilians.
- One of the leaders of Europe now, Mr. Tihomir Dragaš, has just announced that "lists" are being made that remind of the early 90s when Montenegrins were on the blacklists of Milošević's agency. Moreover, the influence of Mr. Abazović and his party created a specific public narrative that put journalists, intellectuals, and even ordinary civil activists in danger. In addition to this fact, his narrative is focused on the targeting of free people in Montenegro and their public labeling - it is stated in the letter.
They add that through the public narrative, Abazović defined Montenegrin free citizens, who gather to protest or express their opinion, as "terrorists", the so-called. "slackers", as well as people with low intellectual abilities, calling them "IQ86".
The authors of the letter note that targeted journalists and groups of citizens are often in danger in public because there are extreme Serbian groups that gather within the Church of Serbia and some of the strongest criminal groups and underground.
- Just in the last few months, journalists have been under direct public attack by Mr. Abazović, which has led to situations in which criminal groups and individuals have started with serious threats, including that journalists will be "hanged on the flagpole for example", which are directly and immediately supported by some members of URE - the letter emphasized.
They note that these journalists and media are recognized as reliable and responsible by embassies, intellectuals, journalist associations and the public community.
- As a group of freelance journalists and intellectuals, we are very concerned about the current situation because "Europe Now" and their leaders, Mr. Milatović and Mr. Spajić, as well as Mr. Abazović and his pariah URA and the rest of the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian coalition represent a constant threat to the safety of citizens, journalists, and intellectuals in Montenegro. Mr. Vučić and official Serbia are leading this process and your support is needed in preventing Mr. Vučić from continuing the destruction of the country. He invested numerous financial resources in the destabilization of Montenegro, especially in the last decade through the Church of Serbia. In the meantime, Serbia is constantly supported by significant financial resources from the EU - the letter stated.
The signatories demand the introduction of sanctions against Serbia and other measures that will stop further destabilization and destruction of Montenegro and the region.
- We wish you good work and hope that this information will make a more objective picture of the Montenegrin reality at this moment - the letter concluded.
