The session starts tomorrow, and the population census is on the agenda

The Parliament of Montenegro will start its session tomorrow with 23 items on the agenda, among which is the Proposal for a Law on the Census of Population, Households and Apartments.
Deputies will express their opinions on several laws proposed by the Government - obligations, litigation and non-litigation proceedings, administrative disputes, electronic documents, efficient use of energy.
On the agenda is the Annual Report on the work of the Central Bank of Montenegro for 2019, 2020 and 2021 and the work of the Council for Financial Stability in the three previous years.
Deputies will consider reports on the work of the Prosecutor's Council and the State Prosecutor's Office for the past year and the work of the Judicial Council and the overall situation in the judiciary.
The agenda also includes reports on the work of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption for the past year, the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms and the Annual Report on the work of the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture for 2020 and 2021.
The Government approved the Bill on the Census of Population, Households and Apartments at the session on June 2.
As it was announced at the time, the list includes Montenegrin citizens who have a place of residence or residence in Montenegro, regardless of whether they are present in the place of residence or temporarily reside in another place in Montenegro or in another country, and foreigners who have an approved permanent or temporary residence .
Data on the persons included in the census will be collected on name and surname, gender, date of birth and unique identification number, place and country of birth, marital status, i.e. cohabitation, life partnership of persons of the same sex.
As announced, the list will also include data on citizenship, national or ethnic affiliation, religion, mother tongue and the language the person usually speaks.
"Exceptionally, if a person does not want to declare his nationality, that is, ethnicity, religion, mother tongue and the language the person usually speaks, the answer "Does not want to declare" is entered," the proposed law says.
The census is prepared, organized and implemented by the Directorate for Statistics, and the census commission is formed for each local self-government unit.
"Preliminary results of the census, by settlements, local self-government units and for the territory of Montenegro, on the number of inhabitants, households and apartments and other inhabited premises will be published by the Directorate of Statistics within 30 days from the end of the census," the explanation says.
The Legislative Committee, by a majority of votes, assessed that the proposed census law is in accordance with the Constitution.
