Urgent measures for Pljevlja: Lower electricity prices, masks for citizens...

The Government of Montenegro, in its technical mandate, made a decision to take urgent and long-term measures regarding air pollution and the difficult ecological situation in Pljevlja. This was announced after today's meeting of Prime Minister in technical mandate Dritan Abazović, Minister of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism Ana Novaković-Đurović and Director of the Environmental Protection Agency Milan Gazdić.

Urgent measures:

- The government will subsidize the price of electricity

- The government will provide financial assistance in the procurement of air purifiers for hospitals, kindergartens and schools, as well as public institutions and households

- The government will provide a sufficient amount of N95 protective masks

- The office of the Environmental Protection Agency will be opened in Pljevlja

- The government will appoint an environmental inspector for Pljevlja, and until his appointment, inspectors from Podgorica and Beran will constantly carry out supervision in that city.

Next Sunday, the government will form a team that will propose long-term measures:

- Make a decision to declare the heating of Pljevlja as a project of public interest in order to speed up its implementation

- Subsidize thermal insulation of buildings

- Accelerate the heating projects of other cities in the north that have a problem with enormous air pollution.

The night before yesterday, Pljevlja was the most polluted city in the world. Bad air is not only breathed by the residents of Pljevlja, but also Nikšić, Bijelo Polje, Kotor and Bar.

Air pollution in Montenegrin cities is expected in the coming days, so the Environmental Protection Agency advises citizens to avoid outdoor activities.
