Veljović was detained for up to 72 hours, tomorrow before the judge for investigation

The former director of the Police Directorate, Veselin Veljović, was ordered to be detained for up to 72 hours after the hearing at the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), confirmed to Pobjeda the spokesperson and prosecutor of the SDT, Vukas Radonjić.
According to him, Veljović was detained due to the possibility of influencing accomplices and witnesses and the risk of escape.
His lawyer, Nikola Martinović, told Pobjeda that Veljović will be heard tomorrow by the investigating judge, after which he will make a decision on whether he will be detained.
Radonjić previously announced that Veljović was charged with criminal organizations, abuse of official position and smuggling, and his lawyer Nikola Martinović announced that Veljović was not charged with participating in smuggling - but that he had given Mrkić information that he could use in his business connections.
Veljović was arrested this morning and questioned in the Special Police Department (SPO). In addition to Veljović, Mujo Nikočević and Nikola Mrkić were arrested. Mrkić's brother Aleksandar is being sought.
On the order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office, the Special Police Department today arrested V.V. and M.N. and filed a criminal complaint against them, as well as against A.M. and N.M, who are wanted, on the grounds of suspicion that they committed the criminal acts of creating a criminal organization, abuse of official position, and smuggling - state prosecutor and SDT spokesman Vukas Radonjić said earlier for our portal.
Previously, he recalls, the police searched the apartments and other premises of the suspects, and the evidence against them was also collected in cooperation with the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Law Enforcement Authorities - EUROPOL.
The activities of the Special State Prosecutor's Office and the police in this case will continue in the coming days - said Radonjić.
The Mrkić brothers were targeted by investigative authorities a decade ago, when their hangar in Donja Gorica was searched, and they were linked to the "Mojkovac" clan.
The Special Prosecutor's Office for the Fight against Organized Crime and Corruption established at one time that there was no cigarette smuggling in the premises of the company "Montenegro Tobacco Company" in Donja Gorica and Mojkovac. It was also established that neither Duško Marković nor Veselin Veljović have an ownership stake in that company, as some media reported more than 10 years ago.
Nikočević, as written by some media, is operationally considered a person close to the Skaljar criminal group.
