We expect Montenegro to return to the European path

Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Tanja Fajon said that the 75 percent support of the citizens of Montenegro for the European Union is a great message for the newly elected president Jakov Milatović, as well as for all parties in the country. If they listen to the citizens, they all know where their path is, and that is Europe, is the message of Fajon, with whom we spoke at the NATO headquarters in Brussels during last Sunday's ministerial meeting.
When in January of this year, after one of the EU meetings, Fajon said that "Montenegro remains a cancer, and that the country that was the most successful on the way to the EU is now becoming a country that is a problem", it was clear that this one of the strictest, but also one of the most realistic messages sent by a European official. That is why the first question addressed to Fajon was whether he still has that attitude about our country.
I followed with interest the development of events in Montenegro, the elections in the previous period, and I can say that I am glad that the presidential elections took place in a democratic, fair and transparent atmosphere - said Fajon for Pobjeda, assessing that political stability and a return to the European path what Montenegro should strive for.
That is why my statements were very strict, because I am someone who comes from Slovenia, which is a great friend of Montenegro and wants Montenegro to do everything that the citizens expect from the country's new leadership - said Fajon.
As she says, she congratulated the newly elected president Jakov Milatović.
I sent him a message and expressed my hope that we will cooperate when it comes to Montenegro's progress on the EU path. He thanked me and confirmed that we will cooperate when it comes to the process of approaching the European Union. The President of Slovenia also sent him a congratulatory letter. Slovenia has been and remains a faithful friend, great support and ally to Montenegro as well as other countries of the Western Balkans. We are here to help, and we are also ready to spread the importance of the enlargement process as well as the necessary assistance among other EU member states - stated our interlocutor.
When asked if she expects Milatović, as well as the party to which she belongs, to be able to return the country to its former path, bearing in mind that these are precisely the structures that partly brought the country to the state she described in January, Fajon says:
I expect that, we talked once. Don't expect me to give some estimates a few days after the election, let's wait at least 100 days to see what they will do - points out Fajon.
Commenting on the scheduled parliamentary elections, and being asked what kind of government can return Montenegro to the European path, which is also her appeal, Fajon said that she expects these to be fair and democratic elections.
We all want Montenegro to return to the EU. Now we also have the Constitutional Court, I hope it will be functional. More than 75 percent of citizens support the EU, which is a great message to Milatović and all parliamentary parties that will participate in the elections. If they listen to the citizens, then they know where their path is. Slovenia, of course, wants to help Montenegro through the reform process in order to enter the European Union as soon as possible and to return to the path where it once was, and was the most successful country - believes the Slovenian minister.
Regarding the celebration after the presidential elections, which was dominated by Serbian flags, at which Serbia was sung, and which was also reported by the world media, as a kind of phenomenon, Fajon says that every responsible policy and responsible politicians should find reconciliation and do what is best to improve the lives of citizens.
In Slovenia too, we have divisions, we have a fragmented society, and it is up to the politicians to do everything to ensure that there are no divisions or incidents - concluded the interviewee of Pobjeda.
