Scholz: Russia's war in Ukraine extremely stupid, Putin put the future of his country at stake

AUTHOR: M.J.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of putting the future of his country at stake by attacking Ukraine.
"The war, from the Russian perspective, is extremely stupid," Scholz said today during a conversation with the citizens of Brandenburg's Prenzlau.
He added that Putin, as he said, "due to his imperialist dreams, sends hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers to death and injury, destroys Russia's economic relations with many countries of the world."
"And Ukraine will have a stronger army after that than it had before," added Sholz, Welt reported.
He noted that Germany will continue to support Ukraine militarily to prevent the attacked country from collapsing and to prevent "flagrant violations of the rules in Europe."
"Putin is destroying his country and its future. A peaceful solution can only be achieved if Russia accepts that Ukraine is not a vassal state," he said.
At the same time, Scholz stressed that he would stand by his decision not to send Ukraine long-range weapons that could be used to attack targets deep inside Russia.
"It remains so. That's why I will stand by my position, even if other countries make different decisions," added Scholz, alluding to the US and some European countries, according to Welt.
"I won't do it, because I think it's a problem."
Speaking about reports that the U.S. may lift restrictions on arms shipments to Ukraine, Scholz stressed that "not all speculations have to be correct."
Over the past months, the US and Germany have been coordinating very closely on arms deliveries to Ukraine.
Scholz labeled the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea as a "terrorist act" and said he would bring the perpetrators to justice in Germany.
"A clear decision was made. It reads: We demand that all security agencies and the Attorney General investigate, no matter what. Nothing will be hidden. We want those who did it, if we catch them, to bring them to court in Germany," said Scholz.
Scholz also labeled as a "real, big, fat lie" the claim that the German government had given up Russian gas.
"It is Russia that has turned off the gas tap through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline. The price explosion, state-regulated prices and the search for other sources of gas have cost Germany more than 100 billion euros. The attacks on the gas pipeline took place only after Russia had already stopped the supply of Western Europe via the Baltic Sea," said Soltz.
In August, the state prosecutor issued the first arrest warrant against a Ukrainian citizen for sabotage.
Solz expects that the negotiations on the sale of the share of the Russian state concern Rosneft in the PCK refinery in Švedto will be completed by the end of the year.
Two German subsidiaries of Rosneft own about 54 percent of that important industrial plant in Brandenburg.
"They are currently under the management of the federal government, but they need to be sold. Negotiations are ongoing, which is why the federal government has extended the administration in an administrative capacity. We hope and expect that everything will be clear by the end of the year, so that we can use the next period to finish things," said Scholz.
