Ukraine has air defense systems, but they are not enough to repel every Russian attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today at the 50th Ambrozeti International Forum in Italy.
"We appreciate every step of support for Ukraine, every action and every expression of solidarity from our partners around the world who help us restore security and bring peace closer." Ukrainians want this war to end more than anyone else in the world. Russian aggression leaves us no choice but to fight and defend our lives. "We have anti-aircraft defense systems, but that is not enough to secure our entire territory and repel any Russian attack," Zelensky said, Ukrinform reports.
Zelensky assessed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to destroy Ukraine and is consistently doing everything to deprive it of its sovereignty.
"I don't think Putin wants to give up until he destroys us. His sole mission is to destroy us. How is it possible to start a dialogue in this way? He is a murderer," added Zelenski.
According to him, Russia is destroying the Ukrainian economy and forcing Ukrainians to leave the country. Also, he added, by attacking the entire energy infrastructure, Russia is trying to push Ukraine into darkness.
"Is it possible to accept this evil? Of course not. And that's why Ukrainians continue to fight for life, for children, for the right to live on our land, just to live with our families, in our house, that's all we want," Zelensky said.
He added that Putin is trying to launch "more missiles to kill more children."
"We are trying to defend ourselves as best we can, but they also attack with ballistic missiles coming from Iran," Zelenski emphasized.
As he stated, Ukraine appreciates the support of Italy and other allies.
"We want to end the war, but not at the expense of our country. We want children to not have to suffer anymore. We want the Ukrainian heritage not to be destroyed by the Russians," added Zelensky in his speech.
The President of Ukraine arrived today in the city of Chernobyl in northern Italy, where he will participate in the Ambrozeti Forum - an annual international economic conference on Lake Como.
Zelenski will meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni tomorrow.
