Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora - Emigrants

V.D. Director of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora - Expatriates, Mr. Erduan Demić, met with Marinko Ćulafić, representative of the Montenegrin national minority in the Committee for National Minorities in the Government of the Republic of Albania and founder of the Community of Montenegrins in Albania with headquarters in Elbasan.
At the meeting, the previous work of the Community of Montenegrins in Albania and numerous activities that have already been carried out with the aim of preserving the Montenegrin national identity in this country were discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the further development of cultural, artistic and social activities. Ćulafić informed about the possibility of introducing supplementary classes for the children of our emigrants in the Montenegrin language. Demić welcomed this idea and emphasized that the Administration is ready to support projects that concern the preservation of identity among representatives of our diaspora.
One of the topics of this meeting was the size of the Montenegrin community in Albania. "It is important to highlight the democratic right of Albanian citizens of Montenegrin origin to declare their identity," said Demić, which the Community of Montenegrins also emphasized ahead of the recent Population Census in Albania.
At the end of the meeting, there was talk of continuing cooperation between the Administration and the Community of Montenegrins on projects and activities of importance for the Montenegrin diaspora in Albania.
The meeting was attended by acting Assistant Director Renata Gojković and Independent Advisor I Zoran Đukanović.
